Getting Started

Before you download the game, you'll want to have a look at the requirements for Rakion which are conveniently also on the Official Rakion Download Page located here. While it's downloading, you need to register an account with Softnyx, which you can do over here

While you're downloading the game, no doubt, there are many questions going through your head, and you'll probably want to educate yourself as much as you can to pass the time spent downloading. Use our FAQ. While you're in the FAQ, read about all of the other things, as it will cover most of what would have to be in this guide.

Now you probably want to choose your first class, and you want to know which one is the best. There is no best, it's all dependent on skill because all of the classes are very equal. If you are an absolute beginner to action games or fps games in general, I recommend picking swordsman or blacksmith because they are the easiest to learn. If you want to get a headstart, you will find lists of how to execute techniques here, but the game does offer a complete tutorial explaining the basics to you.

Selecting The Server

After the selecting Rakion instead of Gunbound, as well as getting all the updates done, you'll be asked to select a Server. Naturally, you should select the one closest to your location. Also, keep in mind your character information is stored on all servers, so if you created a character on the European server, you'll still find him on the Asian server exactly as you left him on the European server.

Character Selection Screen

This is where you can create and delete characters. You only have 3 slots, so use them wisely. NOTE: If you create a character and bring him into a multiplayer game, you will have to wait a certain number of days before deleting him! This is to prevent people from making new characters and redoing low level missions to farm gold. If you're still undecided on a class, or you are new to the game, run through the Tutorial quickly after creating a character. It will run you through the some attacks and most basics. I highly recommend it. You can return and do the tutorial at any point in time.

Rakion Lobby

After running through the tutorial and deciding on a set character, you should join the lobby by clicking the button in the bottom right of the character select screen to do so. In here, you see a Game Listing, Character Profile, Clan Profile, Player Listing and Chat Lobby. There are 4 types of Game Modes: Team Deathmatch, Deathmatch, Golem Wars and Stage. You can find out about all the Game Modes in our FAQ. But if you're particularly lazy, I'll just list what each game is here:

Stage

Stages are time attack games where you play with 0-2 other people against monsters and the timer, the faster you go, the better your grade, and the more exp and gold you get. After you get a grade, you cannot recieve the bonus for that grade again, only for completing the mission. If you get a B, then you get an A, you get the A bonus minus the B bonus, so don't try to get every grade on each stage - it doesn't help.

Deathmatch

A free for all mode, kill whoever you want to. Pay attention to anyone who says "This is a 1v1" or something similar, it's a duel and they don't want you interrupting them until one dies.

Team Deathmatch

Red vs Blue, kill the opposing team and still watch for people who are dueling although it's seldom an issue in a team deathmatch, although it's generally frowned upon when you gank someone [more than 2 people attacking 1], most people don't care because it's just part of the game.

Golem Wars

Your base has a golem of your color, in approximately the middle of the map is a golden golem, and at the enemy base is a golem of enemy color. There are two goals on this map, either kill the enemy team (you don't respawn until the next round in golems) or kill the golden golem, then kill the enemy golem. Be careful, the gold sword doesn't stay on you forever, about 2-3 minutes I think.

Inventory and Shop

On the bottom of the lobby will be the Inventory and Shop. When you go there, you should some sort of monster on the right in your inventory. This is Nak, it is the default creature given to you when you create an account. Your inventory and gold are shared across all characters, remember, you only get 1 Nak! You'll want to equip that Nak as it helps take damage in the Stage games. You can also access the shop from here, for Buying Guides, click here.

Creating a Stage Game

Being your first time, create a Stage game. The first mission is solo, so you won't be able to join one. You don't have to do them in order, but there are level requirements. Stages are the fastest way to level when you're low level, and they're quite fun, especially if you have friends online to go through them with you. As explained earlier, Stages are Time Attack, so try to get through them as quickly as you can, your speed will be rewarded with a nice Gold and Exp bonus at the end. You must kill everything in area before the next door opens. If you get stuck, look underneath the bridge you're standing on.

Joining Other Games

After you've done as many missions as you like, you'll have a taste for other players blood. There will be game rooms in the majority of the upper left of the lobby, it will have the Game Type, Game Name, Ping (the lower the Ping # - the better), current players/max players, and the map. If you want to play only a certain kind of game, such as Golem Wars, uncheck every box except for Golem Wars (keep "Available" checked because otherwise it will give you games even if they are full) and it will give you a list of all Golem Wars games currently in progress.

If your friend wants you to join a specific room, type /join (room number) without parenthesis in the lobby chatbox. If you want to whisper to a friend say /say name message (name is caps sensitive). If you want to see what room a friend is in, type /where name (name is caps sensitive).

Now I recommend any class tries a Team Deathmatch (TDM) first (after trying stages) to get the hang of fighting other players. You won't be as overwhelmed as you would in a Deathmatch because you will get backup and you will be able to attack targets that are busy. If you try Golem Wars first and screw up chances are you'll get yelled at, so stick to Team Deathmatch until you get the hang of fighting. Names are colored so just attack people with different colored names than yourself.

Sometimes, when you join a game, you will be kicked instantly. This means you are pinging over 300 to someone in the game. There is nothing you can do about this except try another game. If you're pinging over 300 to everyone, I suggest you take a look at your computer and possibly your system tray.

Game Lobby

When you're in the Game Lobby, there are two sides, Blue and Red. If it's a Deathmatch or Stage, the sides don't matter. On the bottom right, you will see the Game Options such as Level Range, Round Limit and Number of Rounds. You can join any games in progress, and if it's not in progress, all players must be Ready before continuing.

Advice

Now that you've done your fair share of killing, if you haven't already, research characters you don't play. Learn when they use attacks that leave them with high delay at the end so you can land a massive attack on them. Learn their weaknesses and strengths.

Good luck, and have fun. :)
